DARREN ASHLEY is an indie electropop musician and drummer. He plays for the Malaysian rock-pop act Busco as well as one-half of electronic music duo Bass Sekolah, together with producer CEE. Although he was born in our home country, Malaysia, Darren is often mistaken for a foreigner. This misconception became very obvious especially after the hit song Beat of Your Love in collaboration with another talented local pop band, Paperplane Pursuit, just last year. The catchy song not only received much love and attention, was a pleasant surprise to listeners when they expected it to be a song from an American pop band.
Last month, Darren released a featured track called, Jungle, from Razlan Shah’s upcoming EP, Hounds. It was literally written in the jungle, as quoted by Darren. The works of the Bass Sekolah duo are also similar, with the group’s studio, which is conveniently located in the heart of the Berembun forest reserve in Malaysia. Their music is naturally filled with only the sounds of the jungle that are uniquely well-meshed with the vibrant diversity of electronic music . Darren also has his own works released for his early tracks like Far Out and If I Don’t Stay; while his recent works includes an 8-track playlist named Monday Juice which were conveniently released every Monday for 8 weeks. So, what are you waiting for, get the songs and rock your day with a fellow Malaysian’s creation.
